Hailee Steinfeld Loves Peanut Butter as Much as You Do

Oscar-nominated actress and singer Hailee Steinfield is the new face of the women’s collection by Mission’s performance apparel — which is a pretty big deal since the brand has featured only professional athletes until now. And after working out with her in a cardio dance class lead by her choreographer, Amy Allen, we can attest the Hailee is truly a triple threat. We were able to ask her about her how she keeps her life healthy on the road and how she stays grounded with her hectic schedule.

Working out on the road:
From touring, red carpet events, and filming, Hailee is constantly on-the-go, but she finds clever ways to fit in her workouts thanks to her dad, a personal fitness trainer. He customized a box of fitness equipment for her, including resistance bands, jump ropes, and hitting gloves, so Hailee can workout anywhere when on the road. She designs her workout based on wherever she happens to be, and explained that her “workout routine is always different because I’m always in a different place. And that’s what keeps it new and fresh.”

Keeping positive:
Along with taking time to breathe deeply, Hailee reminds herself to stay positive with a simple phrase. “I feel like I tell myself every day, as simple and cliché as this sounds, ‘Take everything one step at a time, day by day.'” There is nothing cliché about that. Anybody can get caught up in the frustrations of life, especially being in a new place every other day.

Favorite fuel:
Fitness routines and positive mindsets are key to life balance, but so is fueling up on healthy snacks. And Hailee clearly loves her peanut butter. When asked about her favorite healthy snack, she quickly replied, “Peanut butter, toast, and banana before a workout or rice cakes and peanut butter. Anything with peanut butter. I love peanut butter.” We feel ya, Hailee. We feel ya.

Hailee Steinfeld: “There Aren’t Enough Songs That Say, It’s OK if You Don’t Love Yourself”

When she’s not captivating the ever-fickle pop world with catchy, cathartic songs—”Love Myself,” “Starving,” and her two current tracks, “At My Best,” with Machine Gun Kelly, and “Most Girls”—that both empower and enamor listeners, Hailee Steinfeld gives the kinds of on-screen performances that remind you why and how she became an Academy Award-nominated actress at just 13 years old for her supporting role in 2010’s True Grit. The question, then, becomes not, how does she do it?!—because, hi, she’s Hailee Steinfeld—but instead, why does she do it?

We caught up with Steinfeld before her performance at the ELLE and Billboard Music Award’s Women in Music celebration—held at the YouTube Space LA on Tuesday night and honoring both ELLE’s annual Women in Music issue and the impending 2017 Billboard Music Awards, airing Sunday night on ABC— to ask her just that, along with a few other burning questions about becoming one of the few masters of two very grueling, dueling forms of artistic expression. And given this is Women in Music, we also just had to know: Britney or Christina? She handled it all, of course, like a pro.

We know you’ve always had aspirations to be a musician. Now that you can firmly call yourself a woman in music, how does it feel?
I mean, I’ve always just wanted to perform and to entertain and to be on stage. It was never about, “I want to be in a stadium.” It could be a coffee shop. But to now be able to do that on so many different levels—in that coffee shop and in a stadium—in the last year and a half has been absolutely insane. And I feel so honored, not only to be able to call myself a woman in music, but to be surrounded by so many incredible women in music.

I think for some who try to tackle music and acting, it can be hard to grapple both of those artistically. What’s your process? Do you consciously say, “Today I’m going to focus on music. Tomorrow it will be acting.” Or is it about the inspiration?
It’s really a little bit of both. If I’m away making a movie, I’m of course focused on making that movie. But the music cycle never really stops. Whether it’s me being in this place where I’ve got very little service but I’ve got this idea so I text it to a friend, “Please do something with this!” and we’ll go from there. Or if, again, I’m on a movie and I have friends fly out to wherever I am and we book studio sessions. We just have to keep it going. But I ultimately I do devote my attention to whatever it is that I’m working on in that moment.

Do you feel like they ever inform each other in a way, acting and singing?
I have definitely learned in the last two years or so how much they can either benefit each other or how they come full circle, I guess you could say. Even so, they are two very different worlds that have a separation between them that I don’t necessarily make, which is kind of nice at times.

I want to ask about “At My Best.” It’s an anthem for sure, but it’s an interesting anthem because it’s one about struggle and owning struggle and what it does for you as a person. Why did that track speak to you on a personal level?
The fact that Machine Gun Kelly asked me to be on the track is an honor. I heard it for the first time and knew I needed a song like this as an artist. I wanted to be able to somehow put into words exactly what struggle can be about. It’s about the fact that this is who I am, this is what I’ve done, this is what I’ve been through. Whether it’s the first day of school where people don’t think you’re cool enough, and then you sort of get on the trends and you’re dressing a little bit cooler, and all of a sudden people are talking to you. Or if it’s a success thing, where you’re not where you want to be, and then all of a sudden you’re in sold out stadiums, and your phone’s ringing off the hook. A lot of people have been there, the extreme down and then the up. And if someone can’t handle you at both ends, is it really worth it? Are they worth it? That’s the question. For Style Chameleon Hailee Steinfeld, Fashion Is a ‘Game’

Hailee Steinfeld wears her stardom well.

She’s gone from an Academy Award-nominated actress who broke through in 2010’s True Grit, to a Met Ball red carpet stunner in all-black Vera Wang, to showing off her midriff in a strappy bustier at last weekend’s Wango Tango.

The actress, 20, has been focusing on her music of late, and her style has shifted into edgier territory.

“It’s very different,” the star tells Yahoo Style about dressing for a live show. “I have found that it’s a constant game of experimenting, and that’s one of my favorite parts. I feel like I’ve been able to do that on the red carpets, and now with being able to play with the stage aspect of it all, you can kind of go that extra mile and think about things that you couldn’t necessarily get away with on a red carpet, which I feel like is the best part.”

Steinfeld even teased a bit of side-cleavage and showed major leg in her Balmain gown at Tuesday’s 2017 Billboard Music Awards & ELLE’s Women in Music event at YouTube Space LA. But her fashion is shifting and evolving.

“It’s very influenced by the music, and that is what I’m working on right now and trying to figure out exactly where that is and where I live,” she explains. “Right now I am working with my single “Most Girls,” which really, truly represents you feeling like you could be anything and anyone when you wake up in the morning. So with that song, I’ve been having the best time because I’ve performed in sweatpants, I’ve performed in minidresses and tear-aways. And that song to me represents that exactly — being who you want to be and having the freedom to express yourself.”

One thing she’s also keen on experimenting with is her hair. “I’ve never colored my hair, so that could be something to play around with,” the “Love Myself” singer reveals. “I won’t say no, but I’m not going to say yes,” she jokes, however, of when she’ll break that streak. “It’ll happen, but I don’t know about soon.”

For now Steinfeld will stick to wigs. “I’m obsessed with [them], and I love to have fun with those!” she quips.

And bad news for those of us looking to acquire her luscious locks; Steinfeld’s perfect hair appears to be hereditary. “I do a trim every now and then, but I really don’t do anything crazy,” she says of her hair maintenance routine. “I love a good hair mask every now and then, but that’s it really.”

‘Pitch Perfect’ Cast Heads To Mexico WITHOUT ‘Diva’ Hailee Steinfeld

The Bellas of Pitch Perfect have been soaking up the sun on a margarita-filled Mexican vacation, but there’s one co-star noticeably absent from the all-girl getaway — Hailee Steinfeld. And an insider told RadarOnline.com exclusively that she wasn’t even invited!

“It’s obvious Hailee isn’t there,” said the source of the singer-actress, who plays Emily in the hit film.

“Thing is, almost no one gets along with her.”

The singing squad, including Rebel Wilson, Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Kelley Jakle, Chrissie Fit and Shelley Regner, created a social media frenzy over all their fun poolside pics, with Wilson writing on Instagram “We love each other so much, we had to go on holiday.”

But there hasn’t been any love lost for Steinfeld.

“She’s a diva disaster,” said the source. “They have tried to give her chances, but can’t stand her.”

The film recently wrapped, so to celebrate, the girls decided to take a break with a bonding trip to Mexico. And the insider said that although Steinfeld “will probably say she had other commitments,” she wasn’t invited.

Said the source, “They thought she’d ruin the trip, so they just kept her out.”

Hailee Steinfeld Shares How She Learned to Embrace Her Height

Hailee Steinfeld loves a good mini moment. The star often shows off her 5’8″ figure in super leggy looks on the red carpet, and she knows how to strike the Jennifer Lopez leg pose almost better than JLo. But Steinfeld revealed that she wasn’t always confident being the tallest girl when she was growing up.

“In school, I was always taller than everybody else and I didn’t necessarily love it. I felt like it made me stand out in a way I didn’t want to stand out in,” she told PEOPLE at the Billboard Music Awards and Elle magazine’s Women in Music event in Los Angeles.

Now, as Steinfeld’s blossomed into a red carpet style star (thanks to the help of her stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn), she’s started embracing her height — and sometimes even wishes she was taller.

“Now I can appreciate it. I feel really comfortable showing off my legs,” she told us. “I love myself for that. Sometimes I wish I could be taller. Thank God for heels because we can do that!”

Last night, the singer did just that, sporting a leg-baring black Balmain gown with high Christian Louboutin pumps to amp up her height, before switching into a crop top and pants for a performance during the award show.

At the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month she opted for another mini moment, putting her legs on display in a lavender Fausto Puglisi mini dress teamed with metallic heels.

Steinfeld said that her fashion transformation is influenced heavily by her music.

“With my single, ‘Most Girls,’ that song is about waking up and being whoever you want to be whenever you want to be that,” Steinfeld said. “With that song, I’ve had the most fun performing in sweatpants to mini dresses to jeans and a tank top.”

And the style chameleon definitely can pull off all looks.

Here’s What’s Inside Hailee Steinfeld’s Makeup Bag Right Now

It’s easy to lump Hailee Steinfeld into the category of pretty, celebrity It girls. She definitely fits the bill — super stylish, friends with anyone who’s anyone, has a huge social media following, etc. But a few minutes into our conversation, and I’m reminded that she’s more than just that. Between filming blockbuster hit Pitch Perfect 3 and working on her music, Steinfeld has somehow made time to be the latest ambassador for activewear brand MISSION, meaning she’s never not working. She’s arguably the most ambitious 20 year old I’ve ever met, and immediately, I feel regret for thinking she was anything but a full-fledged powerhouse — even if it was only for a second.

That’s not to say she isn’t a fairly normal 20-something, though. When I walk into the room, I find Steinfeld slouched over in her chair, one leg up on the seat, thumbing through her phone. We talk about Coachella, our love for high-waisted leggings and sweats (“I live for athleisure,” she proclaims), and avocado and egg sandwiches. Movie and pop star aside, Steinfeld is as simple as she is sweet. This is especially true when it comes to her beauty routine.

“In my makeup bag, I have foundation, concealer — which is key — a setting powder, a very small natural eyeshadow palette, and a finishing spray. I’ve got a couple of brushes, too, and some brow stuff, and that’s it,” she tells me. Steinfeld isn’t loyal to any one brand either, because like you and me, she’s obsessed with discovering new beauty products and trends. “I love those 30-second tutorials where they speed it up,” she confesses with a smile. “I love watching those. I will sometimes attempt to achieve what I watch, but it never really works out.” But one trend she isn’t afraid to embrace? “I love a good highlight — liquid highlight, especially. I’ve really fallen in love with it. I love how natural it looks.”

Something tells me that highlighter isn’t solely responsible for Steinfeld’s glowing complexion, however. (I don’t know, I had a hunch.) I had to know her secret. “Hydrating. It’s crazy when I go a couple days not drinking as much water as I normally do. I especially start to see it on my skin.” Boring? Sure. But tried-and-true? Well, if you need any convincing you should be reaching for your Swell bottle, please check out Steinfeld’s latest selfies.

She’s also religious about her skin care regime — taking off her makeup at the end of the night, using a gentle face wash, a moisturizer, and a sunscreen during the day — but it’s all about moderation. “I tend to not over-moisturize because I feel like it leads to breakouts.” And breakouts do happen. After all, Steinfeld spends a good amount of time dancing on stage in a full face of makeup. So how does she deal when a pimple pops up on her face? “I cry, I scream, I ask my mom, ‘WHY?!,'” she jokes as she shakes her hands towards the heavens. But the real answer is, again, simple. “If I’m lucky, I can cover it up. If it’s not manageable, you just deal with it. It is what it is. It happens, especially when you’re on stage performing with makeup on and sweating…the result is, you can’t fight it, you can’t hide from it. You just kind of have to embrace it.” Continue reading “Here’s What’s Inside Hailee Steinfeld’s Makeup Bag Right Now”

Hailee Steinfeld Signs Publishing Deal With Warner/Chappell Music

Hailee Steinfeld, who burst onto the scene at age 14 with an Academy Award-nominated turn in the Coen brothers’ 2010 reboot “True Grit” and is pursuing a parallel career in pop, has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with Warner/Chappell Music.

Her song “Starving,” with American duo Grey featuring Russian-German producer Zedd — and co-written by fellow Warner/Chappell songwriters Asia Whiteacre and Noise Club — peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 last fall. Her new single, “Most Girls,” which she co-wrote, was released last week.

Steinfeld, 20, was recently featured in the critically-acclaimed film “The Edge of Seventeen,” for which she received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a motion picture — comedy or musical, as well as an MTV Movie & TV Award nomination for best actor in a movie.

“I’m honored to join the many incredible talents who call Warner/Chappell home, and I know that this team will give me the support I need to express myself musically and continue to grow as a songwriter,” Steinfeld said in a statement. Warner/Chappell Music Senior VP/Co-Head of A&R Katie Vinten added, “Hailee is a creative whirlwind, whether it’s in the recording studio, in film, or on stage. The entire Warner/Chappell team is thrilled to have her in the family, and we look forward to collaborating with Hailee to take her musical career to new heights.”

Steinfeld has recorded songs with Machine Gun Kelly (“At My Best”), Shawn Mendes (an acoustic take on “Stitches”), DNCE (“Rock Bottom”), Kato & Sigala (“Show You Love”), and Prince Fox (“Fragile”). She will reprise the role of Emily Junk in the upcoming movie musical “Pitch Perfect 3.”

Steinfeld was featured in a pair of musicals — “Once” writer/director John Carney’s “Begin Again” and “Pitch Perfect 2,” which led to her signing a recording contract with Republic Records and releasing her debut EP, “Haize,” in 2015.

Pop Shop Podcast: Hailee Steinfeld on ‘Pitch Perfect 3,’ Her World Tour ‘Goal’ & More; Plus, Bruno Mars Back on Top

Welcome to the new episode of the Billboard.com Pop Shop Podcast, Billboard’s weekly audio breakdown of the Billboard charts, hottest music news and year’s biggest musical events. Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear Billboard co-director of charts Keith Caulfield and Billboard.com senior editor Katie Atkinson every Tuesday on the Pop Shop Podcast, which can be streamed on Billboard.com or downloaded in iTunes.

On our latest show, we’re joined by Hailee Steinfeld! We met up with the singer/actress at a dance studio in Hollywood, where she was promoting her partnership with Mission for their first line of women’s athletic apparel by leading a dance workout with her choreographer Amy Allen. Before working up a sweat, we got in some questions about Pitch Perfect 3, her latest music and much more.

Steinfeld just wrapped filming on the aca-threequel in Atlanta, and she said life on set was just as fun as the cast’s behind-the-scenes pictures made it look. “It was awesome,” she gushes. “We jumped right back into it as if no time had passed in between. Crazy to think years had gone by since the last one. I had the best time. That’s two of my worlds combining, with the singing and the acting. It was a blast. I can’t wait for people to see everything they want and more.”

So what will her uber-upbeat character Emily Junk be up to when the movie arrives in December? “I will tell you that Emily is — and I didn’t think this was possible — even more optimistic than the last movie, and more positive and eager and willing to do whatever it is to make things work,” Steinfeld teases. “She’s very excited a lot of the time, which is great. I applaud it and support it.”

As for her pop-star side hustle, Steinfeld talked all about teaming up with Machine Gun Kelly for their Pop Songs-climbing track “At My Best” (“I’ve always wanted that sort of song”), her “goal” to hit the road (“A world tour is something that I’ve dreamed of”) and how she finds time to record new music, like her just-released single “Most Girls” (below). “When I sleep — I record in my sleep,” she laughs. “That’s the crazy thing: I recorded so much in Atlanta. Any day I wasn’t shooting [Pitch Perfect 3], I was in the studio recording. Back in L.A., I had sessions booked every day.”

Justin Bieber Dating Hailee Steinfeld After Secret Meet Up After MET Gala? – The Truth

The 23-year-old Baby singer and the 20-year-old actress have reportedly been dating just over a month.

A source told the website their relationship is ‘still fresh’. While the pair may not seem like they have a lot in common, they do share the same faith. And, according to TMZ, it was their pastor Carl Lentz who introduced the two stars as each both attend his church, Hillsong.

Last month, JB dropped a giant clue things were heating up between them when he was photographed mid-FaceTime with the “Pitch Perfect 2” star.

Does Justin Bieber, 23, have a new love interest in his life? The singer allegedly met up with Pitch Perfect star, Hailee Steinfeld, 20, after she left the MET Gala on Monday, May 1, and now TMZ is reporting they are an item. However, a source close to the situation tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that there is nothing romantic happening between Justin and Hailee.

Hailee “has shown no interest in a romantic relationship with him,” the source tells HollywoodLife.com. “Hailee is committed to her longtime boyfriend, Cameron Smoller.” Phew! While we’re bummed to hear that Justin isn’t in a new romance, we’re happy to hear that Hailee and Cameron are still going strong. They could not be a cuter couple!

As for Hailee and Justin, it seems the two are just friends, and a fan photo does appear to show them hanging out after she left the MET. Though it’s cool to see them hanging out, you can clearly see there is no affection between the two and they are just chatting one-on-one. Maybe they’re working on music together? Hmm!
