Hailee Steinfeld on Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s Upcoming Wedding After Setting Them Up

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s forthcoming nuptials are approved by their matchmaker: Hailee Steinfeld!

As fans know, the True Grit actress had a hand in Jonas and Turner’s romance early on. ET caught up with Steinfeld while she was promoting her upcoming film, Bumblebee, at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, to learn how she reacted to the engagement news.

“I was so excited for her and Joe,” Steinfeld said. “They’re both great friends of mine. Sophie’s my sister so I love her and anything that makes her happy.” Jonas and Turner got engaged in October of 2017, nearly a year after they started dating. Steinfeld admitted during a radio interview in January that she encouraged Turner to give Jonas as shot.

“I mean, I will say I did get that text from Sophie being like, ‘So, tell me about Joe,’ and I was like, ‘Go for it,'” Steinfeld told radio host Smallzy on Nova 96.9 radio in Sydney, Australia. “I actually just saw them both for the first time since they got engaged. And, yeah, I’m, like, freaking out about it!”

While at Comic-Con, Steinfeld also discussed what attracted her to the Transformers prequel, which centers around a teenage girl’s friendship with the lovable titular character in the 1980s.

“Well, it means a great deal to me to be able to play a young, female heroine, and she’s this incredible character, Charlie Watson and Bumblebee,” she said. “She really takes being a typical misunderstood teenager to the next level in terms of fighting for her voice and her freedom, and it’s amazing. And getting into the mindset, ’80s mindset, was really a blast on all fronts. Kind of immersing myself in that world through music and the hair and the makeup and the wardrobe, that’s always the fun part.”

Hailee Steinfeld’s Self-Care Advice Should Be Required Reading

Hailee Steinfeld, the Oscar-nominated actress and singer, knows the value of putting yourself first. Not only is it something she croons about in her own music, she implements it in her everyday life.

The “Love Myself” singer’s resume features a national tour, acting in films like “True Grit” and “Pitch Perfect 3,” and serving as an ambassador for Mission, a workout apparel and accessories brand. That hardly gives her enough time to think, let alone indulge in an elaborate self-care routine.

But that’s exactly why she makes time to do it.

Below, Steinfeld breaks down how she takes care of her body and brain, from sneaking in time for exercise to handling the pressure to appear perfect on social media. And it all starts the moment she wakes up.

Would you say that you’re a morning person or no?
Ahhh, no! I’m not.

What time do you like to wake up?
Ideally not before 10 a.m.

Do you use a snooze button?
You know what? I don’t think I’ve ever hit the snooze button more times than I did the other day. I don’t normally! What I usually do is set different alarms, but the other day I think I hit that button like seven times.

What’s your go-to breakfast?
Oatmeal and scrambled eggs.

Do you prefer coffee, tea or neither?
Tea, but I don’t drink caffeine, so decaffeinated tea.

Do you prefer to exercise in the morning or at night?
Night.

What’s on your workout playlist right now?
Drake’s album.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Ugh, normally I check my phone, which is terrible! I’ve started sleeping with it on the other side of the room. Continue reading “Hailee Steinfeld’s Self-Care Advice Should Be Required Reading”

Hailee Steinfeld Talks About Social Media Pressures: ‘I’ve Been Guilty of Comparing Myself’

Since releasing her first single “Love Myself” in 2015, Hailee Steinfeld has continued to promote a message of positivity. But the actress-singer admits that even she has days when it’s tough to feel confident.

“Scrolling through Instagram, I’ve been guilty of comparing myself,” Steinfeld, 21, tells PEOPLE. “But instead I’m like, ‘Wow, I admire her dedication. If I want that, I can work for it.’ You can feel unconfident, that’s normal. But you can also do whatever you want to feel confident, and if that means changing something about yourself, do it. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

The Pitch Perfect star, who’s partnered with activewear brand Mission, has learned that social media isn’t where she should search for acceptance.

“It’s definitely not a place anybody should go to for validation — I can’t find it there,” she says. “I think you’ve got to find it within yourself, and if you’re going to post something, post it because you love it or you like the way you look or you like what’s in the photo. That way you don’t necessarily care what people have to say about it.”

Steinfeld says that surrounding herself with inspiring women has also helped her become empowered. “I started to feel like, just in a two-minute meet-and-greet with a fan or working with women on my team, there’s so much to be motivated by.”

On days when she’s feeling low, Steinfeld will turn to a workout to “sweat it out.”

“I love to get it all out that way,” she says. “It’ a form of escape.”

Workout time often doubles as family time for Steinfeld, who’s trainer is her father Peter. “He’s one of my best friends,” she gushes. “It’s hard for me to listen to anybody else because I really think he’s the best.”

But she did have to establish a few boundaries when training with dad. “There were times when I was like, ‘You’re my dad when you’re my dad. You’re Pete when you’re training me, and that’s it,’ ” Steinfeld says. “But then he’d be pushing me and I’d be like, ‘Dad, I don’t want to do that!’ ” Continue reading “Hailee Steinfeld Talks About Social Media Pressures: ‘I’ve Been Guilty of Comparing Myself’”

Hailee Steinfeld Shares Her Tricks for Staying Fit and Healthy While On Tour

Like so many celebs, Hailee Steinfeld appears to be constantly chipper and glowing, despite a pretty grueling lifestyle. But as it turns out, traveling the world (hello Pitch Perfect franchise and world tour!), hitting up press events, and hanging with her (maybe) boyfriend *do* take a toll on the 21-year-old. “There are days when I’m low on energy because of my night’s sleep or just everything catching up to me,” Steinfeld said to Shape. When that happens, she says she tries to focus on everyone else who’s part of her shows (including the audience) to muster motivation, she says. And when she’s off stage, the singer-actress makes a point to take care of her mind and body to avoid feeling “meh” as much as possible (starting with intense pre-tour workouts with her dad/trainer).

We checked in with Steinfeld between stops on her tour to find out exactly how she stays on her A-game.
How She Stays Cool In the Summer Heat

How She Stays Cool In the Summer Heat
“Mission’s cooling towels are amazing,” she says of the apparel and accessories brand that she recently partnered up with. “It’s one of those things that you don’t know how great they are until you try them. I came across them through dancing in rehearsals and now take them on the road with me—they’re the first thing that me and my dancers go to when we get off stage. I also love swimming and staying in the water when it’s hot out.”
Her Workout Routine

Her Workout Routine
“Touring is great because when I’m performing and sound-checking, I’m putting in more work than I realize. I’ll still set aside extra time to work out, even if it’s just 15 minutes of taking a walk or getting in a little bit of cardio after a day’s work. If I’m in the gym I’ll switch it up between the elliptical, bike, treadmill, or swimming. Even when I’m not busy, I always stick to my favorites: circuit training and kickboxing. Running isn’t my favorite but I’ll still do it.”

“I always feel like spending time in the gym is a relief. I go in and put my headphones in and kind of just separate myself from everything for a while. It’s kind of like a safe zone in a way. I definitely walk away feeling more relaxed.” (Find out what workout class Steinfeld is dying to try.)
Her On-the-Go Self-Care Practices

Her On-the-Go Self-Care Practices
“I always feel like a candle does wonders. If you can take the scent of home on the road with you it’s very comforting. That and a couple of pictures of family and friends. I also try to take time for myself, even if it’s just a couple of hours. I will try my best to get a massage if I can. Or I’ll take a walk in a park and relax and just shut down for a little bit. There’s a part of me that enjoys the traveling aspect of touring and I always think ‘I might never be in this city again, so I need to get out and explore,’ but I make sure to use my free time to unwind too.” (Related: Recreate This Glam-Yet-Sporty Hairstyle Seen On Hailee Steinfeld) Continue reading “Hailee Steinfeld Shares Her Tricks for Staying Fit and Healthy While On Tour”
