Hailee Steinfeld on How She Stays Motivated and Her Style Do’s & Don’ts

Recently, Cotton teamed up with actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld to promote the Find Your Favorite Mall Program. We sat down with Hailee for a behind the scenes interview to discuss her motivations, inspirations and, importantly, her favorite fashion.

What is your style motto?
Look good and feel good inside and out. And live your life with the confidence that comes with it.

What is your favorite wardrobe staple?
One wardrobe staple that I can’t live without would be my cotton sweatpants and sweatshirts. It really kind of represents that state of being in rest for me. Traveling in them, I always feel very comfortable and yeah, it’s kind of my go-to.

What is your summer-to-fall cotton item?
Scarves. I love wearing them in the summer sort of as an accessory and then when you get into fall and get a little colder, it becomes more of a necessity.

What is your favorite trend?
My favorite trend right now, that I actually wore on set today, is a long denim cotton trench. I think they’re so cool. You can throw them on with anything, dress something up with it. It kinda works for any occasion. Yeah, I’m really really into them.

Why is cotton The Fabric of Our Lives®?
Cotton is the fabric of my life because no matter what time of day it is or where I am in the world really, whatever I choose to wear is likely cotton. And, thinking about it, some of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe are cotton.

Hailee Steinfeld Talks First Time Performing at Radio City Music Hall & Swarovski Jewelry Faves

Hailee Steinfeld glistened from head to toe in a crystal-encrusted jumpsuit and stacks of glittering bracelets at the launch of the Swarovski Crystaldust Collection in Rockefeller Center last week. The actress and pop superstar chatted with us on her love for the new Swarovski collection, her first time ever performing at Radio City Music Hall (as a special guest for Meghan Trainor, no less), and why NYC is so special to her.

You performed at Radio City Music Hall as a special guest for Meghan Trainor last night, and you have a second show tonight. Had you ever performed in Radio City Music Hall before?
I had not. I actually had never even been in there before—it was amazing. I am well into the tour now and it’s like I feel like I’ve got it down—then we are in New York City and not only is it New York Fashion Week but I am playing at Radio City and all of the sudden I feel like I have no idea what to do with my hands.

You’re a California girl born and raised, but what makes NYC so special to you?
There’s always something happening and it’s a cab ride away. And it’s so awesome to get a text from a friend or see that a bunch of friends are at one place and you just go. In LA it’s more of a trek, you have to always plan. It’s so spontaneous here in the city and you can do just about anything.

What is your favorite Swarovski piece?
Personally, I love the Crystaldust Collection. The fact that it’s a two in one—I like to have the choker one day and a bracelet the next. It’s almost like a magic trick. I love having it on tour with me.

Your tour is wrapping up at the end of September. What’s next for you?
I have a movie called The Edge of Seventeen coming out at the end of the year.

Could being a fan of Swarovski lead to a future collaboration?
I hope so—it would be so great. I have so many things I am inspired by.
