Hailee Steinfeld is picky about film parts

Hailee Steinfeld is picky in “the best way possible” when it comes to selecting film roles.

The 20-year-old actress has just been nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in The Edge of Seventeen, in which she plays a high school student who must overcome a series of personal obstacles. Prior to this she was nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting part in 2010’s True Grit, proving she has an eye for a successful movie.

“I’m picky in the best way possible,” she smiled to Pop Matters. “I have an amazing team of people who help steer me in the right direction. I’ve had the honour of working with great filmmakers and actors, and when it comes to making a decision in terms of what films I want to do, it comes down to the director and the people involved.”

She still finds the attention surrounding True Grit, which also featured actors such as Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges, “crazy” and admits she never anticipated how things would pan out. Six years later the brunette beauty is continuing to star opposite big names, most recently Woody Harrelson in The Edge of Seventeen.

“His timing is impeccable,” Hailee gushed. “Everything is always on point, which kept me on my toes. It was very exciting, but also terrifying. He challenged me. He’s a great person, has the best sense of humour, and was a delight to work with.”

Next up fans can see her reprise the part of Emily in the third Pitch Perfect instalment, having won audiences over in 2015’s second offering. Hailee keeps her loyal followers up to date via social media, which has become a part of her everyday life.

“After my first movie came out, I got onboard with all of it. It was amazing to see that people had been waiting for me to get on Twitter and Instagram,” she added.
