The Workout Class Hailee Steinfeld Is Dying to Try

Hailee Steinfeld’s character in the Pitch Perfect series isn’t a stretch, at least talent-wise. Steinfeld is a legit triple threat. She has an Oscar nomination under her belt, is wrapping up her debut album after several successful singles, and she can dance. With all that skill comes a demanding schedule, so Steinfeld’s nailed her travel routine down to a science. We sat down with her before her performance for Kellogg’s national cereal day to hear all her time-saving tips, how she winds down, and the self-realization that inspired her song “Love Myself.”

Her go-to quick breakfast: “I like Special K topped with a banana. That’s what I have when I’m on the road and on tour. And then when I feel like splurging, Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, and Rice Krispies are my favorites.”

Why she isn’t a morning workout person: “I’ve recently tried to start working out in the morning so it’s over with and I can go on with my day, but I just can’t do it. I go at night when the day is done. I wash my makeup off, I go to the gym, I’m done. It’s kind of my way of winding down. I find that I sleep better.”

How she stays fit on the road: “My workout routine changes all the time based on where I am and what I have access to. I’ll travel with resistance bands and a jump rope in my bag so that I don’t necessarily need a gym. But when I’m in a hotel, that’s where you can find me.”

Her wellness bucket list: “I’ve heard a lot about infrared saunas and cryotherapy. I have a couple of friends who are into them, but I have yet to try them myself. With my schedule the whole class thing is hard but I’m really curious. I’ve never tried SoulCycle and that’s what I want to try next because I feel like you’re in there and there’s music playing and you’re going.”

Her speedy beauty routine: “I spend a lot of time on YouTube watching five-minute tutorials to try to get quicker with my ‘gotta get out the door’ look. But honestly I let my hair air dry and use some dry texture spray for a little somethin’ somethin’. When it comes to makeup, if I’m in a rush or want a simple everyday look, I moisturize and wear a little foundation, concealer, and mascara.”

Her view on body confidence: “I think nowadays it’s easy to look for validation in all the wrong places. I’m guilty of it. But I do feel like I’ve realized ‘this is who I am and this is my body and I can try to change it, but this is what I’ve got and should be proud of it. That’s why I wrote ‘Love Myself.'”
