Joe Jonas ‘nervous’ Hailee Steinfeld will prank him

Singer Joe Jonas is feeling a “little nervous” that Hailee Steinfeld will seek revenge for his April Fools’ Day prank.

The former boyband star phoned into an Australian radio station last week (29Mar16) and pretended to be a super fan of Hailee’s – asking her a series of awkward questions. While attending the iHeart Radio Music Awards on Sunday (03Apr16), Joe admitted he was worried about how the singer-and-actress plans to retaliate.

“I called in and pretended to be a fan, but she figured it out straight away,” he told Access Hollywood. “She’s smart, she knows. She says she has something planned for me which I’m starting to get a little nervous about.”

During Hailee’s appearance on a Sydney radio station, Joe, 26, decided to play an early April Fools’ Day prank by phoning in and posing as a fan. Claiming his name was ‘Harry’ and speaking in a squeaky voice, Joe begged Hailee to send him some toenail clippings – much to her disgust.

However, Hailee, 19, quickly realised it was a joke when ‘Harry’ quizzed her on what it was like to work with Joe and his pop-rock band DNCE for the new single Rock Bottom.

“I think they took a lot away from it actually,” Hailee quipped. “Joe sings the whole second verse which means I’m not singing it, so that kind of sucks.”

Although Hailee worked out she was being set up by Joe, the former Jonas Brothers musician has no plans to stop playing jokes on her.

“I need to start pranking her on other odd days,” he added to Access Hollywood.

The friends are no strangers to getting involved in the traditions of April Fools’ Day. Last year (15), Joe posted a photograph of an ultrasound scan on Twitter and claimed the pair were having a baby together.

However, the star has now revealed that prank also backfired when he failed to set the story straight.

“Yes, I have done these pranks with her a few times,” he said at the awards show. “Last year we pretended, like, we were having a kid together and I forgot to tell people that it was an April Fools’ joke, so she was mad at me.”

Hailee Steinfeld Tells Alli Simpson She Was Jealous of Joe Jonas On Tonight’s “The Alli Simpson Show” On Radio Disney

Alli Simpson is giving us the latest scoop on Hailee Steinfeld‘s latest single “Rock Bottom feat DNCE” on an all new The Alli Simpson Show tonight on Radio Disney.

In the interview, Hailee tells Alli that she was actually “a little jealous” of Joe Jonas singing her favorite verse of “Rock Bottom,” but after she heard the final cut, she was glad Joe cut a verse on her single because it took her song to the next level.

Rock Bottom featuring DNCE’ came about a couple of months ago. Joe and I were in the studios working on our EPs at the same time with the same team and he had heard ‘Rock Bottom’ and loved it so much that he wanted to cut a verse on it..and he did. And the first time I heard it I was like man, he sings my favorite verse! I don’t know if I’m happy with this. I’m a little jealous now! (laughing) I heard the song for the first time with Joe on it and I was like ‘this is so perfect and this is so amazing’, and it works. And for me ‘Rock Bottom’ really represents what a roller coaster a relationship can be and having a male and female both on the song feels like it fully tells the story.

Alli also gets a little personal with Hailee, asking her about the negativity she faces on social media and how she deals with those negative comments.

Well I think for a long time my advice would have been to ignore it and not acknowledge it, but I think it just becomes harder and harder for anybody to do that because it is just everywhere. But you take it with a grain of salt and know that no matter who you are, where you go, or where you are from it is always going to be there and if you have that self-confidence and self-love then none of that should matter.

Hailee speak about how music informs her acting, songwriting, and more

Los Angeles native Hailee Steinfeld took her first acting class at age eight and, only five years later, gave an Academy Award-nominated performance as Mattie Ross in the Coen brothers’ frontier western True Grit. Although she was taking vocal lessons and recording song covers in a studio at the time, as acting became a serious pursuit, her musical beginnings were sidelined in favor of the screen. When the opportunity to combine the two interests arose in the musical comedy Pitch Perfect 2, however, Steinfeld became an a capella singing Barden Bella and began creating her own music.

In November 2015, the now 19-year-old released her debut EP Haiz (Republic Records), taking its title from a fan-given nickname. Her first single, the pop empowerment anthem “Love Myself,” was a telling, bouncy introduction that didn’t shy away from self-love—literal, or otherwise—with Steinfeld confidently singing, “Pictures in my mind on replay / I’m gonna touch the pain away … Gonna love myself, no, I don’t need anybody else.” Last week, Steinfeld released the music video for “Rock Bottom,” the second single off of the EP and featuring DNCE (a band she admits she’s “so obsessed with”). Collaborating with the four-piece was an obvious choice; Steinfeld’s friend Joe Jonas was working on DNCE’s debut EP at the same time Steinfeld was working on hers, and with the same team. As Steinfeld tells it, Jonas cut the second verse on the song and “it felt right.” The result is a catchy tale of a turbulent young relationship, perhaps best encapsulated by the lyric, “We play hard with our plastic guns.” Continue reading “Hailee speak about how music informs her acting, songwriting, and more”

Steinfeld had surprising reaction to film

Actress Hailee Steinfeld worked with renowned film directors the Coen brothers when she was just 13 but has revealed she found appearing in the musical Pitch Perfect sequel more intimidating.

The 19-year-old is in Australia to launch her latest single, Rock Bottom, as she promotes her other career as a pop star.

Originally, though, Steinfeld became known for her acting talent in the movie True Grit alongside Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, and directed by the Coen Brothers, and was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the dark western at the age of 13.

Yet stepping on to the already-established Pitch Perfect 2 set was a scarier experience, according to the actress.

“I was actually late to the process. They had already started working on the movie by the time I got there so I was really already stepping into a world that was already established with the first movie, and then I was kind of late already, so I had a lot of catch up to do,” Steinfeld said on Network Ten’s The Project on Monday. Hailee Steinfeld Shines as ‘Ladygunn’ Magazine’s April Cover Star

Hailee Steinfeld gets sparkly in a sequined bodysuit on the cover of Ladygunn magazine’s April issue.

The 19-year-old singer and actress spoke to the mag about the incredible response she’s gotten for her single “Love Myself” and how important it is to have self-confidence in a judgmental world.

“I’ve had girls come up to me and say, ‘Thank you for this song and this message, because it’s something that I needed to hear.’ Regardless of how they interpreted it, that’s all that matters to me at the end of the day,” she explained.

Hailee added, “It’s something I need to remind myself of — how much power it is in being able to love yourself. It’s so easy to forget that we live in a world that is so judgmental…I think if you can start with yourself and have that self-assurance and that self-confidence and love, then you’re good and you’re set.”

Hailee‘s issue of Ladygunn hits shelves on April 1st.

Hailee Steinfeld Will Perform at the Radio Disney Music Awards

Hailee Steinfeld is no stranger to the Radio Disney Music Awards, as she introduced fellow singer and actor Becky G to the stage at the 2015 awards. But now she’s back in a major way — she’ll be performing at the show!

The Rock Bottom singer will join Ariana Grande and DNCE as one of the performers at the ceremony, which will take place on April 30 but hit the air on May 1st. (Confused? Just remember that Saturday is the day you check Instagram and Snapchat for real-time updates, and Sunday is the day you watch your TV.)

There’s no word yet which of the four songs from the Haiz EP Hailee will perform, but given that she just released a killer duet with DNCE, it’d be a shame if they didn’t team up to sing “Rock Bottom.” After all, we can bet you’ve been singing along to the anthem since it dropped two weeks ago. As for Hailee? She’s definitely on the right side of her music career.
